Do You Like Diamonds?

What do you think of diamonds? They are beautiful, aren't they?

A couple of months ago, Naomi Campbell was accused of having illegal diamonds coming from the corrupt ex-liberian president Charles Taylor.

But, what's going on with these stones? How can these little stones be illegal?

1 Diamond = 20 AK47 Kaláshnikov

Welcome to the real world. Have you ever heard about "War Diamonds"?  These are diamonds illegally sold to pay different conflicts in war areas, particularly in central and western Africa. Thats is to say, corrupt governments in Africa which change ARMS for diamonds. But the real thing is that rebels from the same area change their diamonds for weapons too.

There is a logical reason: Modern societies want diamonds and WE sell Africa our arms for these stones. It doesn't appear on TV, why? Because WE are the bad guys in this story.

"Most wars in Africa are little more than diamond wars"

However, there is something even sadder: most of the warriors in these diamond wars are just children, not even teenagers. Beautiful, isn't it?

What's your opinion about this? Who is responsible for this rude situation?

  1. Maybe i can say I'm not the people who helps to make the wars and I don't do that. The really bad in this moment about those, it's to have ethics and moral because this it's the first step for to improve the situation from Africa.

  2. The politician have the answer for this problem.
What's that answer? Always, the selfishness it's over the "ethic", how Pepe says.
Unlucky, this is 'the fish which bits his tail' (spanish expression..) and always is the same problem.

    See you,

  3. In my opinion, the problem doesn't really come directly from the politicians. I think it comes from ourselves too.

Something similar happens with Mobile phones. They contain COLTAN(the mineral that allows us to see and touch a mobile phone's screen). Well, there has been 50.000 deaths and 500.000 refugees (the population of Seville) since 1999 due to this mineral. Can we do something?

  4. I think that it's different.
In our society, the mobile phone is an important thing for us. We need the mobile to phone your parents, your friends if you stay at street.
But, we don't need the diamonds, it's a object to wear.

  5. My english isn´t as good as yours, but I´ll try to do the best. I think that it is not our fault, maybe the solution resides in that every country could be able to take benefits of their own country´s natural resources, but this is a price that west governments are not ready to pay.
Please david send me an email with my mistakes. Thanx ;)

  6. And what about poor countries' governments? Are they really going to take care of their people?

  7. I think that in poor countries, the government want to earn money, alone. They don't want to know about the poors of his country.
